Relationship difficulties are one of the most common reasons people seek out therapy. As social beings, our relationships are highly important and when they are not functioning well, we experience stress, frustration, and may feel down about ourselves and our future. In my practice, I offer individual therapy to help you navigate and resolve your relationship challenges. Through a compassionate and evidence-based approach, we will work towards building healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
Common Relationship Challenges
Individuals often seek therapy for issues such as:
Communication Problems: Difficulty expressing feelings and avoiding conflict leading to unhappiness or resentment.
Trust Issues: Infidelity, dishonesty, and breaches of trust.
Emotional Distance: Feeling disconnected, lack of intimacy, and emotional withdrawal.
Attachment Issues: attachment trauma or insecure attachment leading to excessive anxiety or avoidance.
Life Transitions: Stress from major changes like marriage, having children, or job changes/losses.
Cultural and Family Dynamics: Conflicts arising from different backgrounds, values, and family expectations.
My Therapeutic Approach
I integrate various evidence-based approaches, including Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and attachment- and mindfulness-based therapies to help improve your relationships. We will work towards better understanding the core emotions underlying your difficulties (often fear of abandonment or shame of feeling unworthy or inadequate) and transforming them so that you bring a healthier self to your relationship dynamics. Or we may help you to become better aware of your deepest emotional needs and learn how to express them in effective ways.
What to Expect in Therapy
Our therapy process begins with an initial assessment to understand your unique experiences and challenges. Together, we set goals and develop a personalized treatment plan. We will explore your past important relationships to uncover how you might have been affected and continue to be influenced by those experiences. Sessions are collaborative and supportive, focusing on your progress and well-being. If you would like individual therapy support in resolving your relationship difficulties, please reach out.
