FAQs

  • A referral is not needed to book an appointment. Please reach out if you would like to schedule a free consultation, or, if you’re ready to get started right away, an initial session.

  • Yes, I do! Finding the right fit in a therapist is highly important. In fact, research has found that it is the best predictor of therapeutic success we have!

I am happy to offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to potential new clients, to discuss the issues you are hoping to address and how we might work together.

  • My rate is $275 per session (no HST).

I do not have sliding scale (reduced fee) availability at this time.

  • Yes, probably! Most extended health insurance plans offered by employers or post-secondary institutions provide some coverage for psychological services. If you have any questions about whether services are covered or how much will be reimbursed, it is advisable to clarify this with your insurance provider directly.

Please note that I do not bill directly to insurance, but instead provide you with a receipt after payment which you can submit for reimbursement.

  • The first 1-2 sessions will be spent discussing your current concerns, existing coping strategies, and mental health history. I am interested in having a holistic understanding of who you are, and thus we will also review your childhood, your relationship to your main caregivers, social and academic history, as well as any important relationships in your life.

Following this, we will come to a collaborative understanding of how we might work together to address your goals.

  • This is a great question, and a tricky one to answer. As frustrating as it may be to hear - it depends. It depends on your goals, how complex or severe your difficulties are, and whether the treatment you are receiving is appropriate. For some people, they feel significantly better within a few sessions, and for others the therapy process is much longer.

It is reasonable, however, to sense within early sessions whether the therapist and therapy you are engaged in is a good fit for you. Although it is not expected (or typical) that clients feel significantly better within a couple sessions, you will likely be able to tell whether your therapist and their approach aligns with your needs. If you are feeling uncertain about how a therapist or their approach could be helpful after a number of meetings together, this might be an indication that it is not a good fit.

In my work with clients, I aim to develop a collaborative understanding of what the issues are, and how we can work together to address them. I check in with clients throughout their treatment to evaluate whether they are satisfied with progress, and identify areas of further improvement. I am always happy to discuss with clients any questions they might have about their therapy process.

  • Clinical Psychologists are one of the most highly qualified mental health professionals. In Ontario, most Psychologists hold a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (PhD or PsyD) in addition to a master’s degree. During training, Psychologists complete comprehensive coursework on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders. This coursework is complemented by supervised training in numerous practicum settings (i.e., university counselling centres, hospitals, community mental health clinics) as well as a predoctoral residency (typically a full-time, year-long experience). Following completion of the doctoral program, psychologists must complete another year of supervised practice before being able register with the College of Psychologists of Ontario as autonomous clinicians.

This means that the typical Clinical Psychologist in Ontario undergoes between 6-7 years of specialized training before they graduate, and then completes another year of training before independent practice. The education, training, and experience that a psychologist receives is extensive.

Clinical Psychologists are able to provide a mental health diagnosis, but do not prescribe medication.
